Popular Use Cases

How QR Codes Work

QR (Quick Response) codes store information in a 2D grid of dark and light modules. Invented in 1994 by Denso Wave for tracking car parts, they've become the universal bridge between physical and digital worlds — used in payments, boarding passes, restaurant menus, and marketing materials worldwide.

A QR code can store up to approximately 3KB of data (about 3,000 characters). They include built-in error correction (up to 30%), meaning they can still be scanned even when partially damaged or covered by a logo — which is why adding a center logo works without breaking scannability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this QR code generator really free?

Yes, completely free with no limits. No account needed, no watermarks, no premium tiers. All features — including logo, gradient, shapes, and all download formats — are free.

Is my data safe?

Your data never leaves your device. The QR code is generated entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is uploaded to any server. Even when you upload a logo or image, it's processed locally.

Can I add my logo to the QR code?

Yes. Upload any image (PNG, JPG, SVG) and it will be placed in the center of your QR code. You can adjust the logo size (15% to 30%) and add white padding behind it for better visibility. The QR code remains scannable due to error correction.

Will the QR code still scan with custom shapes and colors?

Yes, as long as there's sufficient contrast between the QR modules and background. Our generator keeps the finder patterns (corner squares) standard for reliable scanning. We recommend testing your QR code after heavy customization.

What is Image Pattern QR?

Image Pattern mode makes your QR code look like a photo or image. The dark QR modules reveal parts of your uploaded image, while light areas stay white. The result is a QR code that resembles your image while remaining functional and scannable.

Can I create a WhatsApp QR code?

Yes. Enter a phone number (with country code) and an optional pre-filled message. When anyone scans the QR code, it opens WhatsApp with a chat ready to send. Perfect for business communication.

What's the difference between PNG, SVG, and PDF?

PNG is a raster image (pixels) — best for digital use and small print. SVG is a vector format — scales to any size without losing quality, ideal for large prints. PDF is a printable document format — best for professional printing with exact dimensions.

Can I create a Wi-Fi QR code?

Yes. Enter your network name (SSID), password, and encryption type (WPA/WEP/None). The generated QR code, when scanned by any modern phone, will auto-connect to your Wi-Fi network without typing.

Do the QR codes expire?

No. QR codes are static images — they don't expire. As long as the content they encode exists (like a URL or phone number), the QR code works forever.

Can I scan QR codes on this website?

Yes. We have a built-in QR code scanner at the bottom of the page. Use your device camera to scan in real-time, or upload an image containing a QR code. The decoded content is displayed instantly with copy and open options.

Can I use these QR codes commercially?

Absolutely. QR codes generated here are yours to use however you like — on business cards, product packaging, marketing materials, signage, or anywhere else. No attribution required.

How do I make a transparent QR code?

In the customization panel, check the "Transparent" option under Background. The export background will be transparent (visible as a checkerboard pattern in the preview). Download as PNG to preserve transparency — JPEG does not support transparency.

How do I create a QR code with a gradient?

In the customization panel, check "Color Gradient", pick your two colors (From and To), and choose a direction (Vertical, Horizontal, or Diagonal). The gradient is applied only to the dark QR modules — the background stays clean.

What QR dot shapes are available?

Four shapes: Square (standard), Dots (circular), Rounded (rounded corners), and Diamond. The finder patterns (three corner squares) always remain standard to ensure scannability.

How do I add a frame with "Scan Me" text?

In the customization panel under "Frame", select a preset (Scan Me, Scan Here, Point & Scan) or choose Custom to type your own text. You can also customize the frame background color and text color.

Can I create a QR code for a calendar event?

Yes. Select the "Event" QR type, enter the event title, start/end date and time, and optional location. The generated QR code uses vCalendar format — scanning it adds the event directly to the user's phone calendar.

How do I create an SMS QR code?

Select the "SMS" QR type, enter the phone number and an optional pre-filled message. When scanned, it opens the messaging app with the number and message ready to send.

Can I generate a QR code that looks like an image?

Yes! Use the "Image Pattern" feature. Upload any image and the QR code's dark modules will show your image while light areas remain white. Adjust the blend slider to control visibility. The QR remains scannable while looking like your photo.

What is the label feature?

The label adds text above the QR code in your exported image. You can customize the font family (Arial, Georgia, Courier, etc.), font size, color, and the spacing between label and QR. Long text automatically wraps to multiple lines.

Can I download the QR code as a Word document?

Yes. Select "Word" from the download format options. It exports a .doc file with your QR code and label that you can open and edit in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice.

How do I create a QR code with a border?

In the customization panel, select a border thickness (Thin, Medium, Thick, or Custom px) and choose a border color. The border appears around the QR code in the exported image.

What page sizes are available for export?

Four options: Fit (auto-sizes to content), Square (equal width/height), A4 (standard paper), and Letter (US paper). Combined with the margin setting, you can create print-ready exports.
